Founded in 1953, IOLANI (Previously Iolani Sportswear) is one of the oldest most respected manufacturing companies in Hawai’i. Started by Keiji and Edith Kawakami, IOLANI began with four machines and seven employees crammed in a dirt floor room with a leaky roof behind a service station. Noted for his progressive and cutting-edge business tactics, Kawakami wanted to share Iolani’s success with the people that were most responsible, he started a Profit Sharing Plan in 1963.

The company since then has grown as big as three factories and 200 employees and has established IOLANI’s reputation for being a leader in men’s and women’s contemporary fashion. All garments are designed and manufactured here in the islands and are a favorite of locals and visitors alike. Each garment is made with the highest quality products, and reflect a style unique to Hawai’i, and can be worn with confidence anywhere. Continuing the tradition set forth by his parents, Lloyd is taking the company into its next 50 years.
